Andreas Rier

Statement

Andreas Rier (born 1995 in Bolzano) currently lives in Halle an der Saale and is completing a master's degree in glass/ceramics at the Burg Giebichenstein Academy of Art. He works mainly with the materials glass, porcelain, wood and silver.

Through my work with wood as a form-giving material, I am very inspired by the forest and the trees, nature in general. Their ceaseless change and simultaneous permanence, the seemingly endless growth and decay.
The series of objects "critical points" is part of a small series, which was created in March 2023. The wooden forms for the work were made with a chainsaw from willow, pine and spruce logs and blown out in clear glass. Thermodynamics describes the phase transition of two aggregate states as a critical point. All objects reflect the tightrope walk between solid and liquid, broken and fused.
